Venus Retrograde in Gemini and Venus transiting the Sun

17 May

Venus turned retrograde in apparent motion as seen from the Earth on May 15th at 23 degrees 59 minutes of Gemini(Sabian symbol: Children Skating Over A Frozen Village Pond) and will remain retrograde until June 27th when she will station at 7 degrees 29 minutes of Gemini(Sabian Symbol: Aroused strikers surround a factory).

In the Human Design Chart Venus begins her retrograde motion in the Throat center in gate 12 of Standstill. This gate implies motion that has come to a halt in order to gain perspective and make sure the message is a clear one. From there Venus will backtrack through the Throat gates of the 45(Gathering Together – who is part of our tribe and where should the resources go?), the 35( Easy Progress – what are the experiences we need and stories to share to gain emotional wisdom and move forward?) finally turning direct in the 16(Enthusiasm, Selectivity – What is the creative and logical technique or process we can communicate to each other and be enthusiastic about that brings greater health and wellbeing?). Of course the message track through all of this may also be expressed with the shadow side of where the resources are being misused or wasted and harming the community, what we don’t want to experience because of physical/emotional danger or lethal potential, and talking about exactly what is wrong with the current techniques, logic and procedures of the collective. Critique is good but creative vision is even more valuable.

During this retrograde Venus will make a rare visible transit across the face of the Sun in the 5th line of the 35. She may be advising us that letting go of expectations and therefore, disappointments, allows us to continue to make forward progress without getting bogged down and losing faith. On the physical/emotional/psychic level we will all be inundated with a neutrino stream strongly flavored with Venusian energy during this event. That should be tasty! Once Venus turns direct it’s another run through these same gates but in forward motion so I would expect with all the dust that’s bound to get stirred up the cultural/political/media debate will get hot over the summer with plenty of diversionary tactics trying to get us to turn our eyes away from the burning building(or woman) and “look at that ducky over there!”

Venus retrograde in Gemini to me does contain much about rethinking, revising, reviewing, renewing and all the other re- words in terms of polarity within our relationships and values. Our relationships with each other, with the messages we communicate and take in, with our own inner masculine and feminine and our values including the world financial markets. Gemini is the sign that is least drawn to polarity either in gender or meaning. It is curious, playful, non-judgmental, eternally youthful and can play the coyote trickster. Keeping our minds open and our perceptions from becoming crystallized, old, and no longer healthy and useful seems to be in order from my perspective.

Transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena. They occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits eight years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years. The periodicity is a reflection of the fact that the orbital periods of Earth and Venus are close  to 8:13 and 243:395 commensurabilites. – Wikipedia

In ancient cultures Venus transiting across the Sun shows us the dark side of Venus often speaking of the downfall of empires and indeed in the world news there are many governments on the brink of revolution and much still to come to light about the world financial situation. On a more local level I find it especially witty that the recall election of Wisconsin Governor Walker, who recently signed into law a bill stripping the state’s provision for equal pay regardless of gender, is taking place on the very day of this transit June 5th. All this at a time of the Turning of the Ages and the lead up to the first of 7 exact Pluto/Uranus squares tells me that anyone who thinks they know what is going to happen is likely wrong(including myself!) as the predictions can’t help but be predicated on old-world principals, paradigms, and assumptions. Venus in Gemini retrograde and crossing the face of the Sun re-minds us to re-main curious and playful, acknowledge the shadow, not take any of it too seriously and then creatively improvise with what actually occurs. I am again reminded of Suzuki’s quote “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities but in the expert’s there are few”.

Thank you Hal! I love how different astrologers see a different take on this Venus Rx, but the themes are of course overwhelmingly the same! I see you are having fun at UAC too, love the UACPostcard updates 🙂
